e-Resistible, a new competitor discovered by TakeawaySites.co.uk to join in the race of being UK's number one in ordering takeaway food online. The trendy website was launched on 16th May 2008 by three proactive business-minded entrepreneurs who got together and formed an alliance like the Three Musketeers to battle recession for all those students who are feeling under the weather by the current economic climate. (If you want to know more, read the article featured in the Birmingham Post) e-Resistible is very popular amongst the students at the University of Warwick as many of their societies on campus are sponsored by the company but the general public have also started to show interest which enabled e-Resistible to grow and expand out geographically, with over a 100 restaurants signed up covering areas such as Birmingham, Bristol, Coventry, Warwick, Gloucester, Cheltenham and London. The website makes a change from seeing red all the time with its Windows Vista style look; designed to be user-friendly and attractive with various cool colours. The only difference with the design of this website is that, even though its main purpose is for consumer to search for their nearest restaurant and order food - it is a surprise not to find a single picture of any form of food or dish. Maybe they have their reasons. The 'Help?' page is very useful if you haven't got a clue on what you need to do - it provides you helpful information in plain simple English.
The main feature is situated in the center of the site with a Google map and a list of restaurants on the left hand side. You can either select through the list or search for your nearest restaurant by entering your post-code. If you hover your mouse through the list of restaurants in the colour-shaded boxes, the map pinpoints the location of that restaurant. After selecting one of the restaurants (picked one at random) the menu cards are broken down in categories, which makes it easier to choose what you are after. (Below is a little snippet) Also if you are really hungry and you know what you are after, the website has a search bar to find that particular mouth-watering dish. It is quite handy to speed things up! On the top right hand side of the Menu card (the purple bar) you will see three buttons (Menu, Info & Reviews) which give you useful information about that particular restaurant. Review from each customer in regards with the service is very important as first time consumers rely on other peoples experience - this lets me know what kind of experience I could be expecting. There is a small design flaw which as I have discovered that some information is hidden or overlapped by the Google map (I'm sure the developers know this themselves!). You will know what I mean, just view the image below! (The mistake is highlighted in green) Ordering food is very simple, you just choose what you are after and proceed to the payment stage, but before you do that, you either need to make an account with e-Resistible or login to your existing one (if you have not done so at the start). The type of payment can be viewed when you are on the menu card of your chosen restaurant. e-Resistible accepts all major credit/debit cards for online payments and hopefully a secure payment, although they do not mention any of this...Anywhere. Overall, the website is very fun and easy to use - mainly because it is made by student, for the students. It is nearly a one year anniversary since this website has been launched and are already doing well for themselves. So next time, if you as a penniless student decide to invest in KFC's very own £1.99 snack box - you might want to give e-Resistible a thought.
